Our Story

How it all started...

In 1984, Pastor Jim and Suzy Cornwall founded Scottsdale Worship Center. Our first sanctuary was located in the cafeteria of Desert Shadows Middle School. With the Lord’s help, we grew, and in 1985 purchased the property we have currently, in the heart of north Scottsdale.

Today, Chris and Jennifer Harper serve as lead pastors, alongside an amazing team of staff and volunteers who minister to the SWC family and to our community. Our Gospel-centric core is practiced through lifestyle worship and service to others. Isaiah 61 expresses the heart of the ministry at SWC:

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor..."

Scottsdale Worship Center isn’t about the campus or the buildings, but the people that make up our church family. It is about lives changed and relationships restored. Recently, SWC celebrated its 35th anniversary, an incredible testament to God’s faithfulness. While much has changed over the years, our driving passion has not. We’re committed to being a church that helps the hurting and makes disciples, for the glory of the Lord

Expanding the vision...

To reach our neighbors with the love of Christ means to be intentional about meeting the practical needs of our community. Also, it means engaging with global ministry partners in sharing the Gospel around the world. At SWC, you can be involved in meaningful outreach, whether in Phoenix, at Mom's Pantry or Operation Christmas Child, or in Mexico, India or Ecuador--let's work together for His glory.
