NOTES: Defiant: Choose Gratitude, The Gate of Choice
Sermon: Defiant: Choose Gratitude: The Gate of Choice
Text; Psalm 100
Date: Sunday Nov. 5, 2023
Psalm 100:1–5 (ESV) “1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! 3 Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! 5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.”
Let’s Connect:
The prominence of gratitude in Scripture vs. our culture:
Text Explained:
Can we be grateful in all circumstances? (not for all circumstances)
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (ESV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you
We can’t control or even change most circumstances.
…But we are responsible for our attitude.
Gratitude is the culture of our heart that keeps us humble rather than entitled.
…and is more than an emotion but our gate of choice.
…and the genesis of our growing experience with the goodness of God.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!
Story of Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20):
Holy resistance—the battle—often begins with faith-driven gratitude.
“thanksgiving” todah—is translated “sacrifice of praise” in Jer. 33:11.
Gratitude requires sacrifice!
Hebrews 13:15 (ESV) “15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
Let’s Relate:
Bold, courageous praise!
Psalm 100:1–2 (ESV) “1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!
