Date: August 11, 2024
Text: Galatians 5:22-25
Galatians 5:22–25, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Let’s Connect:
If you were a fruit, which one would you identify and why?
The search for belonging:
Text Explained:
The fruit belongs to the Spirit
Galatians 5:22–25, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Who belongs to Christ Jesus
24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires
Persons ‘born again’ of the Spirit.
“Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:5-6 ESV
John 3:16 (ESV) born again?
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Who do you belong to? No belonging — no fruit of the Spirit
Rom. 6:5-6. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
The Take Out:
Understanding our belonging to Christ Jesus:
1. You don’t belong to you
2. You don’t belong to your sinful nature (flesh)
3. You do belong to Christ Jesus
4. You do belong in the Kingdom of God
5. You do belong in the hand of God
An abundance of the Spirit’s fruit will mirror our vibrant sense of belonging to Christ.
Our Challenge:
Practice belonging: With prayer - With community
