NOTES: Fresh off the Vine, Part 2

Sermon: Fresh off the Vine: Week 2— Keep In Step

Date: Sunday, May 26, 2024

Text: Gal. 5:22-25

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Let’s Connect:

Tired of trying to keep up?

Ezekiel’s vision: Ez 36:25–30

A Moveable Feast: The Holy Spirit provides fresh fruit for us, and then through us.

Text Explained:

What-Who does the fruit look like? (Jesus)

Fresh fruit vs. thorns

Dallas Willard: “Grace isn’t opposed to effort, its opposed to earning”

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.

Modern Problem: either we ignore our responsibility or fail to recognize the power of the Spirit as far more about the transformed life (character) than just signs and wonders.

Examples: Samson/Saul/

Paul uses a military term to inspire our cooperation with the Spirit: “keep in step”

Let’s Relate:

Keep in step with the Spirit:

1. Highly attentive

2. Deeply relational

3. Progressively surrendered

Colossians 3:1–5a, “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you….”

Our Challenge:

We can’t keep up, but we can keep in step with the Spirit.

And by the Spirt, be the “Moveable Feast” in the world.

Closing:

God’s plan for our eternity: Only Fresh Fruit

”And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”“

Revelation 21:3-4 ESV
