Scripture Reading- Tim and Ellen Bleach

Hebrews 10:19–25 (ESV)
19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

The beauty of the Family of God, which is the House of God— the place matters (vs. 19-21):

Hebrews 9:1–2 (ESV): “Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. 2 For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence. It is called the Holy Place.”

The house of God is the sacred gathering of God and God’s people.

I Corinthians 3:9, “For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.”

Hebrews 3:6,”but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.”

I Peter 2:5, “you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

John 14:2-3—“ In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Who is in the house? God
Who else is in the house? God’s people

Psalm 133:1–2 (ESV)
1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!

Illustration: Plugged in (vs. 23)

Consider why modern western Christian culture makes gathering so unimportant?

Let’s daily pause to consider who is NOT in the house (vs. 24-25)

Prayerfully: A renewed vision that sees the worth of those who are the House of God.

Healthy expectations for gathering as the House of God:

Psalm 122:1 (ESV)
1 I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the Lord!”

CLOSING THOUGHTS: there really is a difference with who is in the house….
