Donkey Tasks
By Andrew Cascio
Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.”
Matthew 21:1-2 NIV
Just before this happened Jesus was teaching a parable and then healed two blind men and they received their sight. Jesus tells two of his disciples to go to the village and look for a donkey. Can you imagine what they probably thought!? What!?! You’re here doing miracles and you want us to go get a donkey!?! What did we do? Why are we being punished? I can only imagine the conversation on the road between the two. The fact of the matter is Jesus knew this would be his mode of transportation. It would be fulfilling scripture. This was the King of Kings! He was riding in style, this was his limousine! The two disciples may have thought they were being punished or had a task unworthy of them. However it was actually a tremendous honor. They helped fulfill scripture, they brought him HIS mode of transportation. Do you have anything in your life you feel is mundane? Do you feel like you’re doing things that are not worth your time or a drag? Sometimes God uses these things as teaching moments. He may be strengthening us for a more important task. You never know what it is God has planned for you. “To whom much is given, much will be required”, if he can’t trust you to do the little things, how can he trust you with the big ones? No matter what you are doing today, do it joyfully unto the Lord. Don’t do it to please man or to get an attaboy. Do it to give glory and honor to God, do it to the best of your abilities, because you never know what your donkey moment could lead to!
