In All Things Give Thanks
By Andrew Cascio
“Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.”
Psalms 96:2-3 NIV
How often do we go about our days not spending time with the Lord? We get busy or we forget? Sometimes I just say a quick prayer for someone in need or for a circumstance I’m involved in at the time. Sometimes my prayers are for me, sometimes they are for other people. I heard a pastor preaching one time on the importance of giving thanks in your prayers. This really made sense to me, after all, we pray for something, we receive it, shouldn’t we praise him, glorify him, and thank him for it!?!
God wants a relationship with us, the more time we spend with him, the more we will understand him and his will for us. If we pray for someone or something, that is spending time with him. If we receive something we have been praying for, and pray and give thanks, we are spending even more time with him. Sometimes I pray and just thank God for all the things he’s doing in my life, I pray and thank him for all the good things that he’s blessed me with. I pray and thank him for the answers to prayers.
Sometimes I even pray and thank him for not answering my prayers the way I wanted him to. I’m expecting him to answer yes all the time. Yet I don’t see the whole picture, I don’t know how what I’m asking for will affect me. It could be positive, it could be negative. God does know! He sees the whole picture, we just have small puzzle pieces. Take time to thank God for all the things in your life that you are blessed with.
You will be spending time with him, you will be getting closer to him, and you will feel much better about whatever situation you are currently in. It will help you to focus on the positive instead of the negative. Praise God and give him all the glory for what he’s doing in your life! I believe you will be blessed by doing this.
