Where do I Fit?
By Roberta Stultz
This question is as old as time. We all have wondered, "how I am supposed to function in this space God had given me and for (only He knows) how long?"
Some things are self-evident. I’m a wife and mom, sister etc. However, none of those roles seem to come with a set of instructions. If we are fortunate, we have been blessed with mentors and teachers. Even they are no guarantee that we have been taught and trained. Life happens whether we are ready or not. Like animals and birds, we have certain instincts, especially when it comes to our children.
God places with in us a powerful capacity to love and care for those dear ones. As for the rest of society, it’s so varied I wonder how we manage as well as we do. If we are blessed with parents that know the Lord, we have an advantage. The greatest advantage though is when we are introduced to Jesus and He reveals the Father and Holy Spirit. I was just a child when I asked Jesus into my heart, so I know He has been active in my life even when I wasn’t aware of His presence and protection.
For more than 50 years I have been searching for a place that I fit. I have enjoyed knowing and serving the Lord and had the privilege of serving with several wonderful ministries. I fit for a while but then life happens, and I would find myself at odds again. Only recently I have discovered that I have always “fit” in my Father's loving hand. What I was really looking for was confirmation that I was part of what God was doing in the company of those with whom I was working and fellowshipping.
I seemed to be looking for those who have gone ahead in the purposes of God, wanting to learn and be trained. I find the presence of the Lord is the only place to discover the perfect fit. The reality of our walk with the Family of God, we discover the beauty of vast diversity is His perfect design. Each one of His precious children is fashioned after Himself in some special way. Our unity is in His Spirit. The more we get to know Him and allow his transforming love access to our hearts, the more we find we fit anywhere we find ourselves serving Him and His family.
